How to Find Your IP Address (Public & Local)

There are two types of IP address — your public IP (seen by websites) and your local IP (used inside your home network). Here's how to find both on every device.

Updated 2026

  1. 1

    Find your public IP

Search what is my IP in any browser — the result shows the IP address your internet provider assigned to your connection.

  2. 2

    Windows — local IP

Open Command Prompt and type ipconfig. Your local IP is the IPv4 Address line (usually 192.168.x.x).

  3. 3

    macOS — local IP

Go to System Settings → Network → select your connection → Details. Your IP appears under the TCP/IP tab.

  4. 4

    iPhone — local IP

Settings → WiFi → tap the (i) next to your network → read the IP Address field.

  5. 5

    Android — local IP

Settings → Network & internet → tap your WiFi network → view the IP address in the details.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between public and private IP?
Your public IP is assigned by your ISP and visible to websites. Your private (local) IP is assigned by your router and only works inside your home network.
Does my IP address change?
Your public IP may change when you restart your router (dynamic IP). Your local IP can also change unless your router assigns a static reservation.
