How to Enable a Guest WiFi Network

Set up a separate guest network so visitors get internet access without touching your main devices.

Updated 2026

  1. 1

    Log in to your router

Open your router's admin page and sign in.

  2. 2

    Find the Guest Network option

Look under Wireless, WiFi, or Guest Network in the menu.

  3. 3

    Enable the guest SSID

Toggle it on and give it a distinct name (SSID) so guests know which network to join.

  4. 4

    Set a guest password

Choose a password separate from your main WiFi. WPA2 or WPA3 is required.

  5. 5

    Enable client isolation

Turn on AP Isolation or Client Isolation so guests can't see your main-network devices.

  6. 6

    Save and test

Apply changes and connect a device to confirm internet works and your main devices are hidden.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can guests see my files with guest WiFi?
Not if client isolation is enabled — guests share internet access but cannot browse your local network.
Can I limit guest bandwidth?
Many routers offer a bandwidth limit or QoS setting in the guest network section to prevent one user hogging the connection.
