1
Run a speed test at the router
Connect a device by Ethernet and test speed at fast.com or speedtest.net. If it's slow there too, the problem is your ISP, not WiFi.
-
2
Move the router to a central location
Place the router in the open, elevated, away from walls and appliances. Avoid corners and cabinets.
-
3
Change the WiFi channel
Log in to your router and switch to a less congested channel. Use a WiFi analyser app to see which channels neighbours use.
-
4
Switch to the 5 GHz band
5 GHz is faster and less congested than 2.4 GHz for nearby devices. Enable it in wireless settings and connect your devices to it.
-
5
Update the router firmware
Outdated firmware can cause performance issues. Check the admin panel for a firmware update.
-
6
Reduce interference
Keep the router away from microwaves, cordless phones and baby monitors that use the 2.4 GHz frequency.
-
7
Check for bandwidth hogs
Look at the connected-devices list in your router to spot devices using excessive bandwidth.
